The Irish Private Security Industry has seen recent changes with the introduction of the quality standard IS: 999:2004 and the formation of The Private Security Authority responsible for regulating the security industry in Ireland. Personnel engaged in security duties in the Static Guard and Door Supervisor sectors are required under the Private Security Services Act 2004 to have obtained an employee licence from The Private Security Authority to prior engaging in security duties; employees who engage in security duties without a licence are liable to prosecution. Guarding Skills
Certificate of Competency at Basic Level - Qualification Code BGSB04
The Guarding Skills qualification is designed to satisfy the requirements of those entering the guarding services sector of the private security industry in Ireland. It is presented in one module containing four structured sections. Section one covers industry background and theories relating to security, learning outcomes in section two relate to legislation and regulations in respect of criminal law, civil law, employment and safety law as they impact on the functions and duties of operational security staff. Section three is a specialist retail security section. Section four relates to practical and emergency procedures which are designed to enable candidates acquire a range of skills required for workplace security procedures and responses to on-site emergencies. The Event Security Duties qualification is designed to satisfy the requirements of those entering the Event Security sector of the private security industry in Ireland. It is presented in one module containing five structured sections. Section one covers security aspects of event pre-planning and preparation, learning outcomes in section two relate to legal codes and regulations relevant to the duties of security personnel working at an event. Section three covers a broad range of the typical duties and responsibilities of event security personnel. Section four covers practical safety and emergency procedures.
